Lincoln Sounds

Ladies Barbershop Chorus

LINCOLN MUSIC FESTIVAL 2010

Once again the Lincoln Music Festival Barbershop Class was a two-way battle between Lincoln Sounds and the men of Harmony Lincs.

This was our first public outing with our new Director Chris Smith who has only been with us for a few weeks so it was decided to sing the two songs we sang last year - our Convention ballad, 'If I Give My Heart to You' and the upbeat 'Love Potion Number 9'.

As usual we we fitted very 'cosily' into the singing space, but that didn't stop us doing the full choreography for Love Potion.

The adjudicator was very complimentary, praising our diction, dynamics, ' . . a very dependable bass section . . ' and the ending of the ballad ' . . .with its beautifully held soprano C . . . '.

But unfortunately for us, when the points were added up we missed out by 1 point to the men who retained the barbershop trophy.  Congratulations to them, but watch out next year.  Chris will really have got his feet under the table and we'll be determined to be at least 2 points better!

But for some of the ladies of Lincoln Sounds, this wasn't their first outing in the Music Festival.  Lincoln Mix, a mixed voice chorus made up of some members from both Lincoln Sounds and Harmony Lincs had competed earlier in the evening in the Open Choral competition.

After having had only 5 rehearsals since forming, and learning two new songs - 'Naturally' and 'I'll be Watching You',  'the Mix', under the direction HL's Richard Curtis, took on the very experienced Hungate singers who sang absolutely beautilfully, so it was no disappointment to be 2nd.

Below is a photo of Lincoln Mix rehearsing before singing in the Festival.
