Ladies Barbershop Chorus

MUSIC DIRECTOR

CHRIS SMITH

''I won't let the fear show in my eyes!", said Chris on taking up the position of Musical Director.

Chris, is no stranger to barbershop and is an experienced musical director who has directed a number of a-capella choruses, including the Classic Chord Company and Vocal Links.  He has sung with the gold medal-winning Great Western Chorus and is a six-times quartet finalist in the UK.

Chris has a classical/jazz/swing background and has performed with many of the top stars over the years including Des O'Connor, Jimmy Cricket, Tom O'Connor and Michael Barrymore.  As well as currently singing tenor with the Nottingham-based quartet 'Revised Edition', he is also the baritone sax player in the Paula Baldwin Big Swing Band which performs regularly in Lincolnshire.

"Singing is pure pleasure and helps you forget the cares of the day.  As for being in front of the  Ladies, it's a little like being  the lion tamer but without the chair or whip.  They let me think I'm in command and that's the way I like it.  My day job as an Historic Building Surveyor often involves wobbly ladders, slippery roofs and crumbling masonry so I am used to an element of risk!"
